The Kilty B’s capture eleventh straight win

The Hamilton Kilty B’s defeated the Welland Jr. Canadians 3-2 on Thursday night, to earn their eleventh consecutive victory.

In the first period, Kilty B’s forward, Connor Hayes, scored twice in the first seven minutes. Hayes netted his fourteenth and fifteenth goals of the season, the first on a quick rebound while crashing the net and the second on a drop pass from Nathan Phillips.

Welland responded with a goal of their own on a shot from Val Johnston that just squeaked through the glove of Leland Gill to make it 2-1.

In the second, Hamilton extended the lead on a shot by Ryan Woodburn that ended up being banged in by Brodie McIntyre for his tenth of the campaign.

It got scrappy near the end of the second period, with Hamilton getting multiple chances on the power play. Although the Kilty B’s were unable to score on the man advantage, President, Mike Spadafora, was encouraged by what his coaching staff saw out there.

“I think if you’re watching the game, our power play is definitely moving in the right direction,” Spadafora said. “You can tell by the number of posts we hit tonight. We’re generating the right chances, we need to shoot a bit more, but the good thing is as long as it’s firing on all cylinders, come playoff time. It’s a work in progress but we’re happy with the progress so far.”

Five minutes into the third period, Welland cut the lead in half with another goal by Johnston, this time on the power-play.

Hamilton fought hard to the finish, protecting their one-goal lead and securing yet another win, this their twenty-third.

“I think for us it’s easy to motivate [the team],” Spadafora said. “Because you know everybody in that room; coaches, management, and everybody wants the same thing at the end of the year. We’re working towards the Sutherland Cup and that’s the focus every night, whether it’s practice or a game… We don’t count the ones that are in-a-row, we just do our job and that’s to win every night”

Marquise Brown and Luca Campolo both had a stellar performance with two ‘helpers’ apiece.

The Kilty B’s (23-4-3) play their next game Sat, Dec 17 on the road against the Caledonia Pro-Fit Corvairs (14-14-0-1) at 7:30 p.m.
