Kilty B’s in hole as Falcons take command of series

The Hamilton Kilty B’s have a big hole to dig out of if they are to get back in their second-round series with the St. Catharines Falcons.

The Falcons built a 6-0 lead after 40 minutes and cruised to an 8-2 win in Game 2 at the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena on Monday night. Game 3 is right back in St. Catharines on Tuesday night.

Xavier Drummond and Kyle West each scored twice for the Falcons, while Mike Masotti, Christian Girhiny, Dakota Miskolczi and Adam Pys had one each.

Mark Duarte and Mason Reeves scored late in the third period to break Noah Battaglia’s shutout bid.

The Falcons outshot the Kilty B’s 34-32. Hamilton starter Marco Costantini was pulled after allowing three goals on the first five shots, before Cal Schell came on in relief.

A season-high crowd of 465 fans took in the game.

In Game 1 on Friday, the Falcons took a 2-1 lead into the third period before pulling away with a 5-1 win. Jacob Kelly scored twice for the Falcons. Tanner Brennecke had the lone goal for the Kilty B’s, who were outshot 37-22.

Following Tuesday’s Game 3 in St. Catharines, the series returns to Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena on Thursday at 7 p.m. for Game 4
