Kilty B’s Battle Hard in Sutherland Cup, Despite Tough Game Three Loss

The Hamilton Kilty B’s lost 4-1 to the Stratford Warrior in Game Three of the Sutherland Cup Round Robin on Tuesday night at the William Allman Memorial Arena.

Stratford struck first on the powerplay just under five minutes into the first. Reid Oliver got the puck at the point from Sheldon Pryce before flicking home his fifth goal of the playoffs.

In the second period, Nathan Phillips evened the score at one. Phillips raced up the left side around a few Warriors defender and sniped his ninth goal of the playoffs.

Late in the frame, Stratford rushed the Hamilton goal and took the lead back. Keaton McLaughlin and Luke Fritz both pushed the puck up to Pryce who put it past a panicked David Egorov to go up 2-1.

The game was close until late in the third period Stratford scored an insurance goal. A long shot from the point by Zach Hatch was tipped in by Hunter Nage in front to make it 3-1 for the Warriors.

McLaughlin would an empty netter for Stratford with under a minute remaining to seal the deal.

Owen Willmore held the B’s to just one goal on 26 shots earning the win. This was the first time Hamilton had been held to a goal or less in the playoffs and only the third time all year.

With this loss, Hamilton now holds a 1-2 record with one round-robin game to play.

The Kilty B’s play their next game at home on Sunday, April 23 at the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena. Puck drop is at 5 pm.
