The Hamilton Kilty B’s beat the Fort Erie Meteors 4-2 on Monday night, bouncing back from their previous game, a 6-2 loss in Caledonia on Saturday.
Nathan Phillips scored just past the halfway mark of the third period, taking a pass in the slot from Dylan Abbamont and giving his team a 3-2 lead, one they wouldn’t surrender.
Colin MacDougall (17), Nate Tivey (3) and Abbamont (30) also scored for Hamilton (33-7-1-0).
It took until the second period for either team to get on the scoreboard, when MacDougall lit the lamp with his second power play marker in as many games. It was a carbon copy of his goal from Saturday, Matthew Duarte winning the faceoff to Abbamont on the left point, who passed it across to MacDougall on the other side, with the space and time to take a few strides towards the net while picking his spot.
The Meteors scored two to take the lead, but before the second period could end Tivey struck with an equalizer. A bouncing puck found him near the top of the left circle, and his shot found its way past a screened Meteors netminder.
The teams found themselves in a deadlock again for the first half of the final period, but Phillips broke through with his 13th of the season, with 9:12 remaining on the clock. It would stay that way until Abbamont’s empty net goal with 40 seconds left.
Fort Erie (19-19-0-1) got contributions from Luke Gualtieri (7) and Joshua DiFrancesco (15) in the loss.
Gualtieri tied the game shortly after MacDougall opened the scoring, his shot from the left circle finding its way in after a bounce off the goalie.
The Meteors later took a short-lived lead via a DiFrancesco power play goal, the forward getting rewarded for his hard work in the corners and in front of the net on the shift. A high Gualtieri shot from the point bounced off DiFrancesco and down onto the ice, sliding past an unaware Kilty B’s netminder and into the net.
Duncan Nichols-Delay (13-7-0-1) got the nod in net for Fort Erie, stopping 30 shots on goal in the loss.
Opposite Nichold-Delay was Braedyn McIntosh (15-2-0-0), who made 20 saves in the win.
Hamilton will head to St. Catharines on Friday night, in a battle between the top two teams in the Golden Horseshoe Conference.
