Kilty B’s take a 2-1 series lead

The Hamilton Kilty B’s the Fort Erie Meteors 3-1 in Game three of the second round of the GOJHL Golden Horseshoe playoffs.

In the first period, both teams had their chances to score, and both threw lots of hits.

Dawson McKinney was awarded a penalty shot midway through the frame but was unsuccessful, being stopped on the glove side.

Later in the first, Hamilton’s Matthew Duarte forced his way to the front of the net with the puck after wrapping around behind. Duarte then reached around the Fort Erie goaltender to momentarily score the opening goal of the game. The goal was almost immediately called off due to the net being dislodged.

In the second, it took the Kilty B’s just over a minute to redeem themselves and score the opening goal for real. Aaron Chairot danced into the zone and ripped a shot while falling down to beat the keeper and give Hamilton a 1-0 lead. Chairot now has four goals in eight playoff games this year, second most by any GOJHL defenceman.

Fort Erie answered midway through the period on a goal by Kyle Adamo. Adamo sharply wristed the puck past Egorov for the Meteors only goal of the contest.

In the dying seconds of the second, Nathan Phillips found Matthew Duarte down low where he scored his fourth of the postseason to give Hamilton a 2-1 lead.

The third period was tightly contested with both teams having chances on the powerplay. With under two minutes to play, Connor Haynes dished it to Nathan Phillips in front who delivered the final blow. Phillips now has a team-leading six goals and 10 points in seven playoff games this season.

The B’s secured the 3-1 victory over the Meteors and take a 2-1 series lead.

David Egorov was credited with the win for Hamilton, now with a record of 6-1 in the playoffs. Egorov has been sensational thus far with a 1.08 goals against average and a .965 save percentage.

The Kilty B’s will travel to Fort Erie on Wednesday, March 22 to play Game Four of the best-of-seven series. Puck drop will be at 7 p.m. at the Fort Erie Leisureplex.
