Kilty B’s Erase Four Goal Deficit to Beat Blackhawks

The Hamilton Kilty B’s won 5-4 on the road in Thorold against the Blackhawks on Friday night.

Hamilton fell behind early, getting outscored 3-0 in the first period, including two goals just 22 seconds apart.

Thorold’s Daniel Vasic scored on a rebound from a Brendan Grenville shot off the blocker of David Egorov. Moments later, Jack Sykes ripped home a wrist-shot from the top of the right circle to make it 2-0 for the Blackhawks.

Grenville would add another goal later in the opening frame on a Hamilton turnover.

At the start of the second period, Vasic was credited with a goal indirectly after a bad bounce caught Egorov off-guard to make it 4-0. Egorov was substituted for Leland Gill just after the goal.

Hamilton finally responded when Connor Haynes dangled through a few Blackhawk players, skated around the goalie and set up Noah Vandenbrink for a tap in goal.

The Kilty B’s scored against to make it 4-2 thanks to Brodie McIntyre who tipped in a shot from Matthew Duarte.

Vandenbrink struck again just minutes later on a two-on-one with Dawson McKinney. McKinney was streaking up the right side and sent a cross ice pass to Vandenbrink who finished the job to make it a one-goal game.

Then with just over two minutes left in the third period, McIntyre won the draw in Thorold’s zone. New Kilty B, Torin Hession, wired home his first goal for Hamilton and completed the comeback, making it 4-4.

In Overtime, Wyatt Gibson, got a penalty for head contact which sent Hamilton to the power-play. On the ensuing man-advantage, Noah Vandenbrink got his hattrick and won the game for the Kilty B’s. Vandenbrink has notched eight goals in his last seven games for the Kilty B’s.

The Kilty B’s play their next game Thurs, Jan 19 against the St. Catharines Falcons at Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
