Kilty B’s take game one

The Hamilton Kilty B’s defeated the Fort Erie Meteors 2-1 in game one of the second round of the Sutherland Cup playoffs.

The Kilty B’s took the opening game of the series at the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena on the back of Dawson McKinney and David Egorov.

McKinney wouldn’t open the scoring until mid-way through the second period. It was Torin Hession who brought the puck over the line before dishing the puck over to Nathan Phillips. Phillips then snapped a cross-ice pass to a streaking McKinney who went to his backhand and scored to put Hamilton up 1-0.

The Meteors tied the game a while later in the period when the puck jumped onto Henry Vest’s stick at point black range, where he forced their only goal past David Egorov.

McKinney would strike again late in the third period, scoring the game winning goal. Connor Haynes backhanded a pass to McKinney just across the blueline before he leaned into a hard wrist shot that beat the Fort Erie netminder.

Egorov stopped 32 of the 33 shots he faced in the close-fought victory for Hamilton.

In the regular season, Hamilton went a perfect 7-0 in games against Fort Erie, significantly outscoring them as well.

Now with a 1-0 series lead, the Kilty B’s will travel to Fort Erie to play game two on Saturday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m. at the Fort Erie Leisureplex.
