Hamilton secures tenth straight victory over Thorold

The Hamilton Kilty B’s defeated the Thorold Blackhawks 5-2 on the road on Friday night.

Thorold came out to a quick start, Nathan Kelly scored a goal just 13 seconds into the game, going five-hole on Gill.

The B’s immediately answered with a goal of their own, when Nathan Phillips stripped a Blackhawks player of the puck and scored his eighteenth goal of the season.

Later in the first, Connor Haynes broke into the zone with another steal and went forehand to backhand to score his thirteenth of the campaign.

Nathan Omeri made an excellent slap pass off of the boards up to Matthew Duarte which led to another B’s goal. Justin Monteith received the pass and scored on the two-on-one, giving him 15 goals this year.

Hamilton extended their lead on a short-handed goal, with under two minutes to go in the opening frame. Connor Haynes flipped the puck up to Nathan Phillips who dished a nice pass to Dawson McKinney. McKinney cut back through the crease and notched his thirteenth goal and made it 4-1.

The Blackhawks responded with what was the only goal of the second period to make it 4-2.

In the third, Nathan Phillips would add his second of the night, an empty netter to grab Hamilton’s twenty-second win of the season. Leland Gill stopped 18 of 20 shots for his ninth win in 13 starts. Phillips finished the night with three points while Monteith and Haynes had two points apiece.

With this win, Hamilton sits atop the Golden Horseshoe Conference, one point ahead of the St. Catharines Falcons.

The Kilty B’s (22-4-3) play their next game on Dec 15 at 7 p.m. when they’ll take on the Welland Jr. Canadians (7-18-2-1) at Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena.
